Strange Intimacies: Essays on Dressing Up and Consumption

For four months, I worked on Strange Intimacies together with my illustrator, Beyza Durmus (@silkmauve) and layout artist, Roma Calderon (@romacalderon). What we produced essentially is a labor of love among the three of us, so much so that I encourage you to take in the illustrations and layout as much as the personal experiences I share with you here.

“The very reason I write is so that I might not sleepwalk through my entire life," Zadie Smith said. The three essays within this chapbook were all written during quarantine, at a time of great loneliness that’s made me feel both manic and morose. I've cleaved harder to certain habits, modes of being and thinking that function as salves to my soul. Here you will find musings on pre-loved clothes, the comfort I glean from the studied language of intimacy in brand emails, and my attempt in defining the concept of 'space' as a creative and dreamer in my early 20s.

My greatest hope is that by reading these essays you will find yourself less alone—if only because you find morsels of truth to my words. I would love to hear about what you think of Strange Intimacies, send me an email at krizziaasis@gmail.com or reach me through instagram (@zeamarfori).
